We took the boys up to Columbus this evening for a Columbus Crew match. The Crew play Newcastle United from the United Kingdom. While the Crew lost the boys really enjoyed seeing a match up close.

Day 346 of 365 - High Voltage

I was on my way to drop the boys off this morning before coming to work and noticed someone had stolen about 150 feet of phone line along a heavily traveled State Route. Most people that are doing this kind of theft must think the lines around them only carry 120 volts electric. In reality they are several thousand volts. More and more people are getting killed stealing copper and it is only going to get worse.

Day 342 of 365 - 50mm Prime

My 30 year old 50mm prime lens is probably one of my favorite lenses. With its large aperture it bokeh is amazing yet it is stopped down it is still amazingly sharp. If I could have only one lens in my bag this would be the one.

Day 340 of 365 - Eastern Cicada Killer

Every summer we have a few of these hornets around. They don't seem to mind us and that seem to be their nature. They are non-aggressive towards people so we have always ignored them though they are quite large and menacing.

Day 338 of 365 - Stating the obvious

You would think it would be pretty obvious not to smoke around flammable fuel. Yet we still have to have warnings be cause obviously somebody must have done it.

Day 335 of 365 - Color Management

I am asked about the colors in my photographs on regular basis. Part of the reason for the quality of the colors in my photographs is due to a color managed workflow. My color management starts with the color target in today's photograph. I photograph this target during sessions to calibrate my camera to the light and the subject. This helps to make sure what my eye is seeing is what my camera is seeing. The next step is to calibrate my monitor. The Spyder3 Pro is placed on my screen and a program displays colors on the screen. These colors are read by the Spyder3 Pro and a my monitor is adjusted to make sure the colors are correct. The Professional lab I use sends me calibration data from their equipment and I use that in Photoshop to make sure what I see on my monitor will EXACTLY match the final printed image. SO if you have ever wondered about some of the way I get my photographs to look the way they do, this is all part of it.

Day 334 of 365 - Summer Evening

After a few days in the 90's, this evening was very pleasant. With a few low clouds in the sky and the sun setting, made for a beautiful evening.

Day 332 of 365 - A Cut Above

A year ago I was in the market for a good blade for my table saw. I found an amazing blade from W. D. Quinn Saw in St. Louis. I ordered a new one the other day so I could ship out the one I have to be sharpened. These blades just hum in the saw and leave such a smooth edge I could almost skip sanding.

Day 331 of 365 - Pile of Junk

I was over at the county garage looking for something interesting when this pile of junk caught my eye. The rusted exhaust, brake parts, suspension parts, and other items left in a jumble to rust. The patina of the rust on the parts was intriguing. I may have to do some macro shots of some rust in the future.

Day 329 of 365 - Space

Today is the last launch of the Space Shuttle Program. After 30 years of space exploration with the Space Shuttle America has no manned space flight on the horizon for many years. This evening was clear so I looked to see if there were any overhead passes of the International Space Station or the Space Shuttle Endeavor. It does not appear that they will be passing over Ohio during the last Shuttle Mission so I settled on a little Moon observing this evening.

Day 326 of 365 - The Biker

Summer means our street is full of kids on bikes. Isaac is no exception. He would probably ride from dawn till dusk if I would let him. This evening I got him to stop long enough for a picture.

Day 325 of 365 - Fireworks

I enjoy photographing fireworks displays. This year I am at work and we were busy when Gallipolis began their fireworks and did not make it to see them. So I had some unused fireworks sitting around in my locker so to celebrate the 4th of July, I am photographing them instead.
