Day 172 of 365 - Dead Man's Hand

The infamous Aces and eights hand that was held by Wild Bill Hickok when he was murdered in 1876. The deck of cards has been laying on the coffee table and I was thinking of a way to capture the cards. The other night Wyatt Earp and Tombstone were on and got me thinking about the Dead Man's Hand.

Day 171 of 365 - New Places

In the morning I am of to the Lucasville base for Healthnet4/Medflight 7. I have never been there before, so after getting directions, I had the map out and the GPS is programmed. So tomorrow I am off to new places.

Day 170 of 365 - Mack Truck

This abandoned Mack truck sits over at the Gallia County Garage. I have seen it sitting over there and love the look of it. I have always enjoyed Troy Paiva's work with abandoned vehicles. So with my large spotlight I headed out tonight to capture this Mack Truck. This is a combination of 7 20 second exposures each lighting a different area of the truck.

Day 169 of 365 - World of Crystals

Trevor has a crystal making kit and this is a macro shot of some of the crystals. The rock that was used to seed the crystals in the middle of the shot is only about 3/8 of an inch big.

Day 168 of 365 - Rolling the Dice

The boys played Star Wars Monopoly the other day and left the dice out. I set up this shot of the game board and a few pieces. I used the Lensbaby Composer for the shot. I love the bright colors of the game board.

I created this custom stamp to stamp the back of all my framed work. I have also created 6 other sizes that I am testing or the back and front of prints. This is an easy way to mark the work I have completed, whether I have framed my work or the artwork of another.

A new twist on the colored pencil. My kids love the twistable crayons and colored pencils. With the snow day today they have been inside creating works of art for the fridge.

When I came home tonight and put my change in the jar. The perspective of the change in the jar with the fisheye lens made an interesting composition.

Day 159 of 365 - Red Sky at Morning

What an amazing sunrise this morning. I was getting ready to leave the station this morning when this glorious sunrise caught my eye. I walked around till I found a good vantage point and could not stop shooting. When I got done I turned around and to my surprise a rainbow was behind me. So again I moved to a good vantage point for some more shots.

I saw this red-tail hawk today while driving around. I stopped to get a shot and he moved on. Luckily he headed up the road and I was able to find him again. I got this shot before he headed even deeper into the woods.

Isaac loves cars and engines. My father in law got this engine for Isaac for him to learn about how an engine works. We have had it apart to discuss what is in the engine.

Day 156 of 365 - Brown Marmorated Stink Bug

My wife brought it to my attention tonight, in the middle of winter, that a bug was flying around the house. To my amazement it was a fairly large bug. A stink bug to be exact. So what do I do as a loving husband, catch it and take its picture.

Tomorrow we begin cutting out cars for the annual Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. This car is from a few years ago. It was Trevor's Grand Champion car. Maybe this year he will win again.

Day 154 of 365 - Studying

Many of you that have been following my blog know I was hired in the fall as a flight paramedic with Healthnet Aeromedical in Huntington, West Virginia. Since then I have been in training and I am currently taking my Critical Care Transport class. So I had to get the highlighter and note cards back out for studying.

I picked up this bottle of Fanta the other day at the store. The glass bottle was appealing. You very rarely see glass bottles any more. I had to grab this and photograph it.

I got this wooden box when I was in South Korea. I have always loved the characters in stamped on the outside of the box. I have no idea what says.

Day 149 of 365 - Charged Up

I use small flashes for a lot of my shots. These flashes each use 3 AA batteries. I have 3 of these flashes and feeding them would be expensive using standard AA batteries. Therefore I use rechargeable batteries. It seems like I am always charging batteries though.

I knock over the tackle box today and this Rooster Tail lure fell out. It got me thinking about spring and going out and wetting some line. Hopefully this summer will allow more time for it.

I came home today to a guilty looking dog. This toy has been laying around the house for over a month. What made him destroy it today I have no idea. He just forgot to clean up the evidence!

Day 145 of 365 - The Great Hunter

I love learning about and observing the stars. One of my favorite constellations is Orion the Hunter. I have tried this shot several times and failed miserably. So I went back and did some more research on how to do this. I am going to have to try the Pleiades's next.

Trevor was working on a word search this evening. I was amazed to find the word search for Ohio. Amazingly enough Gallipolis was on the map, and in the puzzle.

I have wanted to do some abstract photos of different things. Today is the first. These are bubbles in a shampoo bottle. The bubbles in the purple shampoo really stood out.

Day 142 of 365 - Scrapbooking

My wife has been using the holiday weekend to work on her scrap booking. I get to take the photographs, she gets to scrapbook them. A symbiotic relationship of sorts. Seeing the way she had left paper and her tools on the table caught my eye this evening.
