I saw this pansy outside the station this morning and new it was my subject for the day. I wanted to wait until it rained and it was covered with water drops. I waited to late and had to use a small LED light to add a little fill.

Day 226 of 365 - Salve
I found this old jar that used to have Cuticura OIntment in it. I am not sure how old this jar is but I am amazed they still make Cuticura Ointment. The ointment is long gone but the jar is now used to store small tacks. I loved the orange contrasted against the black and the font used on the lid.

United States Air Force Museum
On Tuesday I went to the United States Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio with Trevor's school on a field trip. The USAF Museum is dimly lit to preserve the aircraft and artifacts from light damage. This of course makes it difficult to photograph. Fortunately the museum is tripod friendly. This allowed me to get several good shots of a few aircraft. Due to the time constraints of the trip I was not able to spend a lot of time photographing, but I was happy with what I left with.
The first photo is from the early years of flight and is the Curtiss Jenny.
We visited the World War II Gallery and spent the most time there. The first aircraft is the Curtiss P-36A Hawk.
I also had was able to photograph the nose of the B-17G Flying Fortress Shoo Shoo Baby. Another outstanding aircraft.
We had the opportunity to go to the hangers that housed the Presidential aircraft and experimental aircraft. This is the Bell X-1B. The X-1B was hung underneath another aircraft and carried aloft to test rocket engines and supersonic flight.
Another aircraft in the hanger was the YF-12 which was the precursor to the SR-71 spy plane. The YF-12's powerful Pratt & Whitney J-58 engines were amazing.
As the day wrapped up I shot a quick panorama of the Cold War Hanger. This hanger houses the largest aircraft in the museum. Be sure to click the images to see them larger.

Day 211 of 365 - High Water
The water continues to rise. The water is currently at 44 feet and expected to rise another 4 feet by Sunday. The water has covered Ohio State Route 7 in several places making travel difficult. This is the intersection of State Route 7 and State Route 141. The water has almost completely covered the road and will be almost 4 feet deep by Sunday. Be safe, don't drive through water and stay dry.

Day 210 of 365 - On the Rise
After more heavy rains today an already swollen Ohio River is expected to crest above flood stage on Sunday. This is the Robert C. Byrd dam just south of Gallipolis. The roller gates are all raised to allow as much water as possible to pass. When I took this the river was at 46 feet. The Ohio River is at flood stage here at 49 feet. It is expected to crest at 51.5 feet. This may be adjusted up, but it means several main roads will be flooded. As always do not drive in flood waters and stay dry this weekend.

Day 209 of 365 - Charged Up
My old battery charger gave up a few weeks ago and I began the search for a charger that would support my large collection of rechargeable AA batteries. After doing some research I ended up with the Powerex MAHA MH-C9000. This versatile charger allows you to charge at different rates, discharge, cycle and condition batteries. If you use rechargeable batteries you may want to look at this charger.

Day 208 of 365 - Helium Neon
I was cleaning out some closets today when I ran across this Helium Neon Laser tube. Before laser pointers came around this was the only way a normal person could obtain a laser. Was to buy a tube and build a power supply. When I was in high school you had to go to a museum to see a laser. I found a schematic for a power supply in a magazine that used a car coil. I saved up buy the tube and built a laser. Surprisingly 18 years later it still works.

I had a little bit of time to walk around Huntington today during lunch break for class. I took my camera with just my 50mm lens and wandered around the few blocks around where my class was. I saw this locked gate and the gate framed the shot of the padlock.
Here are a few other photographs from the afternoon.

Day 202 of 365 - iPod Crazy
Needless to say we have a few iPods around the house. The first iPod we had is the green Mini. The battery will no longer hold a charge but it does work. The black Nano is my old one that the pause play button is not functioning and was replaced with the Touch that Steph got me for Christmas. Steph's Nano is in the pink case. Trevor's is the green Nano and Isaac's is the blue Nano.
