Day 291 of 365 - Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

Duke was laying here sleeping while keeping his bone close. With Rooney around now Duke keeps his bone close by and usually does not leave it unattended.

Day 290 of 365 - I'll Show You How to Do This

Dad had to get into showing the kids how to roast marshmallows this evening. We started a small fire this evening and all gathered around to roast marshmallows and enjoy, S'Mores.

Day 289 of 365 - You Can't See Me

Really you can't. I am hiding here and not moving till you go away! I was at the station this afternoon, when I walked outside to get something out of the squad. As I was walking down the sidewalk I caught something out of the corner of my eye and it startled me. It was a baby groundhog hiding under the downspout. it was in the shade and the concrete was moist there. It laid around few about 2 hours before moving on. I think it thought it was hiding and we could not see it. It would let us within about 2 feet and did not move at all.

Day 288 of 365 - Isaac in Black and White

The Ohio Foothills Flickr group met in Gallipolis and the topic was lighting. After playing around with different setups Isaac came and offered his services as someone to photograph. I had a great time today shooting with the group.

My wildflowers are in full bloom. Well the ones I did not replant. My bed that I replanted is coming up nicely and hopefully will be in full bloom in a few weeks.

Day 285 of 365 - Camden Park

Today was the first day I have ever visited Camden Park just outside of Huntington West Virginia. Camden Park is West Virginia's only Amusement Park. So after a fun day with the 4th, 5th and 6th Graders from Ohio Valley Christian School, I am ready for bed.

Day 284 of 365 - I'm a Mac

My laptop is ailing bad. I guess I can't complain it is over 5 years old. It is chugging along with Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5. So today I became a Mac user. Spent the evening just getting the basics up and running. I have gotten Lightroom installed but need to contact Adobe about Photoshop CS5. I guess I will do that tomorrow.

Day 283 of 365 - Lightning

As more early summer storms rolled in this evening it gave me the opportunity to try to get some lightning shots. The storms ended up going south of me so I was only able to get a few shots of the lightning at a distance.

Day 282 of 365 - Sunscreen

Broke out the sunscreen for the first time this year as I actually had a chance to catch up on some yard work. The only problem was that I was out too long and the sunscreen wore off and I still got burnt, only not as bad.

On my way home this morning, the fog had settled in and I saw this barn and out building on my way home steeped in the heavy mist of the morning fog.

Day 280 of 365 - Break in the Weather

After a long wet spring this evening as I was headed to Huntington to fly as the weather broke this evening. Going down State Route 7 the clouds were breaking up and moving out for a great evening.

With the return of the sun and warmth today I was making iced tea when I noticed an ice cube melting on the counter. I moved the cube to my black reflective plate and setup a few lights for a photo.

This is my C&H mat cutter's cutting head. Though it appears complicated, it is easy to use and get used quite often. For those of you that did not know, I also offer a full line of custom framing.

I have played around with photographing smoke before. I was going for something different tonight to be used for an upcoming composite shot were I would need the smoke shot.

Day 276 of 365 - Hogging the Bandwith

Rooney is always getting up on the couch and walking across the laptop keyboards. If you wiggle the mouse around it will catch his eye and he will sit and watch it. I set this shot up to catch him watching the screen.

Day 275 of 365 - Clearing the Ball

Today was the last day of the Marietta Classic Soccer Tournament. This was the first time the U10 division played at this level and they did very well. They have more to learn. Here Trevor, who was goalkeeper, is clearing the ball during a goal kick.

With storms in the area this evening it made for an amazing sunset. The hardest part was trying to find a vantage point in unfamiliar territory.

Day 273 of 365 - Orbs

This evening I heard a strange noise in the backyard. When I went out to investigate I saw these two glowing orbs hovering around the swings. Luckily they stayed around long enough for me to grab a quick photograph. Hopefully I will get to see them again!

Tonight's waxing gibbous moon caught my eye this evening as I saw it through the trees this evening.

Day 271 of 365 - Northern Green Frog

I found this Northern Green Frog outside the station this evening while looking for something to photograph. Needless to say it hopped right out in front of me. Though the Northern Green Frog can look like an American Bullfrog, the Northern Green Frog has a fold of skin behind each tympanic membrane(ear) running down its back. Luckily he stayed put for me to run in and get a camera and a flash.

Today I was in Morgantown for a class at WVU Medical center. On my drive in I noticed this overlook and found my way up for a panoramic photo of downtown Morgantown.

This evening I saw these yellow irises among some purple irises. With the sun slowly setting behind them they really stood out.

Day 267 of 365 - Lonely Barn

Trevor had soccer in Albany today, so afterwards we came back via back roads to look for some landscapes to photograph. Just outside of Harrisonville in Meigs County I spotted this lonely barn back in a field against a treeline. The clouds were just moving in and the rain started soon after this.

Day 266 of 365 - Loss of a Landmark

Yesterday afternoon the Cora Mill along the Raccoon Creek outside of Gallipolis fell to the ravages of time. Cora Mill was built in 1835 by Charles Giles and stood for 176 years. The mill operated until 1928 and during the 1937 flood the swept away the damn and turbine. The mill was one of 13 along Raccoon Creek and was the last remaining. I have photographed the mill a few times in the last 2 years. I was planning to go again this summer to try to meet with the owners and get inside and document the inside. It is a stark reminder that as photographers we need to take any opportunity we can to capture reminders of the past because we never know when they may be gone.

Here is the mill today after yesterday's collapse.



About a mile downstream on Raccoon Creek this afternoon there was still some debris caught in the fast flowing water of the swollen creek.

Day 264 of 365 - Gloomy Barn

With another rainy and gloomy afternoon, I stopped on my way home to photograph this barn. The rain had just stopped and the clouds beginning to break up when I stopped. This old barn has seen better days and has not appeared to have been used in many years.

Rooney joined our family a few weeks ago and I got a quick photograph of him the night we came home. I did not capture his blue eye the way I wanted to, so tonight I set out to see if I could capture his blue eye.

More rain moved in this evening. After weeks of steady storms almost everyday or every other day, we are getting tired of spring rain.

Caroline came over this afternoon for Senior Pictures. One of the firsts ideas we discussed when planning for the session was a No H8 photo. She wanted the look of the photos taken by Adam Bouska.
